Holy Week Music
With Holy Week coming up, we would love to share some new music with you!
Sung Stations of the Cross (Passion narrative) for cantor, choir, and assembly (Palm/Passion Sunday, Good Friday).
This beautiful text by Tom Troeger, with music by John Tirro, sings the Passion narrative in 15 couplets (corresponding to the Stations of the Cross), sung by soloist and choir, with a refrain, "Not my will but Yours be done," sung by the full assembly. "I initially set the text for Palm/Passion Sunday," recalls Tirro, "to draw us through music and that repeating refrain into the emotions of the Passion and to point us toward Good Friday, when we read the full Passion narrative. It's moving to be part of, as the voice of the assembly shifts from soloist to all, to choir, to all, to another soloist, back and forth in varying texture until the four-fold pianissimo repeats of 'Not my will but Yours be done.' It's also easy to teach and to learn, takes minimal rehearsal."
